My name is Wade Treichler (Try-Kah-Lur) and like most people I find self-promotion awkward and self serving, but just the same here goes – the site header reads ‘creative type’ as that’s the best description I can come up with. I’m a print designer, a web designer, a photographer and most recently leader of a of non-profit communications team, an odd mix of designer, tech-McGuyver, accountant, and therapist – and a hell of a lot of fun. In addition to holding the title of Director of Design and Interactive Communications at the National Council on Family Violence, I also own my own marketing and web design company, facilitating the marketing and social media needs of individuals.
From college and an undergraduate degree in architecture, to running my own web design business, design has been an integral part of my professional development. In addition to a solid background in web design, a significant portion of my professional experience and responsibility has centered on print design.
Spanning the budget-minded two-over-one mailers to four-color-plus annual reports and event invitations, I have created, managed and overseen an extensive range of print projects, from creative inception to finished product.
Things on My desk: MacBook Pro and old-school 20″ cinema display, Lego Han Solo, Nikon D80, D5100, iPad, the worlds oldest pantone swatch book, Xbox controller, rocks from New Mexico, desk calendar set to May of last year, pen jar from Bogota with no working pens, Lego x-wing, picture of Liz, Coffee that I’m about to go top off (this is always true) and motorcycle goggles (because you just never know).
Over the past five years web related has increasingly dominated my workload. Starting with some basic CMS-based sites in the non-profit sector and managing the multitude of challenges therein (committees, non existent budget, lacking IT infrastructure), I’ve since launched my own company, leveraging my experience to provide cost effective web solutions for a multitude of clients
I am currently director of the communications team at the National Council on Family Violence. I oversee design, production schedules, website design, execution and maintenance, budgets, personnel issues, and am responsible for the overall look and feel of three separate national entities. I have been a key part of launching the first-of-its-kind text messaging service for teens in dating abuse situations, allowing youth in crisis to chat with a peer advocate via text. The first text was sent by Vice President Joe Biden in September of 2011.
While IT does not officially fall into any job description I currently hold, circumstances have necessitated that I not only stay familiar with current trends, practices and procedures, but also participate on the ground in everything from planning sessions and server setup and administration. Additionally, as we have moved towards utilizing software as a service systems (SaaS), their overview and administration of these systems has increasingly fallen under the purview of our department.
